10 imagesThree artists – professional artist teacher and critic dad Nico van Rensburg, his teacher farmer artist son Nikodemis and dancer barrista designer daughter Heidi Lise – join forces in an organic symphony of diverse dances in visual art. Nico's abstract expressionist land- and seascapes do an Afro-operatic collaboration with his post impressionist and fauvist portraits to set the more formal stage. Heidi Lise ballets with illustratively moody Lautrec-like portraits twisting with left field spotlights of steampunk doing barn dances with new winded old school still lives. Nikodemis' abstract canvases of colour, texture, found objects and revived beauty indigenous to Africa cha-cha's with his junk and jive sculptures of farm life made from recycled organic and plastic materials salvaged on his self-sustainable smallholding in Kzn. Together these three express their respective freedoms as only the truly unbounded creative can, with no excuses and no holds barred… THREE FREE exhibition: Opening night 04th July 2019 18:30-22:30 First Sundays Melville 07th July 2019 13:00-17:00 Monday - Friday 05th-31st July 2019 10:00-15:00 The Art House, 67 4th Avenue, Melville

28 imagesBorn 23 September 1967 in Joburg to same parents as Heidi Lise 😊. Brought up breathing art, spirituality and fun, with a good dollop of green living and respect for nature thrown into the mix. Studied Fine Arts at Wits Tech. Received a Higher Diploma in Education in languages, literature, art, drama and film and religious studies from Wits University, and an Honours in Creative Writing and Teaching Languages and Literature from UJ. He worked as arts journalist, copywriter, published poetry and a children’s book, and as teacher in pre-, primary, secondary and tertiary institutions including public, private, urban and rural as well as prisons etc; did lots of community projects using waste materials as income generating and building source, and worked on arts and cultural projects for various international festivals and projects. He follows his heart in all matters of life, without compromise – living his dream on a self-sustainable piece of paradise in Kwazulu-Natal with his partner, kids and other animals wild and free range style – from pecan nuts and bees and veggies and fruit to chickens and horses and fish to eagles and monkeys and reptiles and nyalas and everything in between. He co-owns and manages Animalia Learning Center for homeschoolers and unschoolers, facilitating free range self-directed learning for all ages. His art is his honest and fun-filled appreciation of beauty – unlocking it in all things including junk and people, expressing his passion for conservation, green living for freedom and sustainability as a daily life-style from agriculture to building stables to animal care to making landscape art river bridges jungle gyms tree houses, and art. Nikodemis has been exhibiting his art throughout the country over the years, and has work in private collections all over the world. His art is best described as free-style, ranging from painting to sculpture to landscape art. Besides farming and teaching/learning, he also writes, plays the trumpet, and loves to dance and sing. 21 imagesBorn 17 March 1971 in Johannesburg to Nico van Rensburg and Afrikaans Literature PHD and super creative mom, Annetjie van Rensburg. With three brothers, she was the last and the only girl. Started her ballet career at The Art, Ballet and Music School in Houghton. Joined PACT Ballet for 3 years after which she studied Interior Design at Wits Technikon. At the technikon she had painting as a subject. She worked at Retail Interior designers for many years hereafter as designer on interior and architectural projects. She started painting earnestly again 2 years ago. Her art teacher Jeandre Mariner spotted her talent and in every painting grew her own style. "Beauty inspires me, be it landscapes, seascapes or figurative images. I look for colour, detail and mood. I work solely in acrylic, building layers and dry-brush shading, with soft overlays. I leave white edges and under paint colours brightening the ensemble where it becomes alive. I endeavour to create a painting from a photograph, not a copy." Heidi’s work is also indicative of the 'Steam Punk' genre as seen in her figure studies. This is a style of design and fashion that combines historical elements with anachronistic technological features inspired by science fiction. The essence of steam punk is homage to vintage fashion with a modern, sassy twist… Nico (Londos) Van Rensburg, Heidi Lise, Nikodemis Diverse artworks... one family… three genre's… free themes Three artists – professional artist teacher and critic dad Nico van Rensburg, his teacher farmer artist son Nikodemis and dancer barrista designer daughter Heidi Lise – join forces in an organic symphony of diverse dances in visual art. 103 imagesRodger Hart was born in Johannesburg in 1946 where he has spent most of his life. He studied Geology at the University of the Witwatersrand where he obtained a PhD in 1997. As an Earth Scientist he has worked extensively in the African bush, which is the source of much of his inspiration as an artist. During his career as a scientist his work has focused on the early evolution of the Earth and he has worked at many of the top universities around the world. He has published 50 articles in international journals including Nature and Science. Hart started painting in 1982, when he took a sabbatical for two year to study art at the Johannesburg Art Foundation. In 1986 he staged a one-man exhibition at the Rembrandt Art Gallery, University of the Witwatersrand, and in 2000 he held an exhibition at the Allianze Francaise Gallery, Johannesburg. He has also been involved in several group exhibitions. He views his career as a scientist to be intimately interwoven with his art, and much of his artistic endeavours are stimulated by his current scientific focus. One of his major interests is a search for common denominators between art and science, and how these disciplines respect the society and times that we live in. His major influences are Soutine, Frank Stella, Kandinsky, Van Gogh, Picasso, Gaughin and Pollock. Although Hart’s art is mainly influenced by Nature, he attempts to incorporate most of his life experiences into his work and in particular there is a strong fusion of art and science in many of his pieces Rocks are an important theme in many of his paintings and strongly influence his shapes and colours.

19 imagesThis printed collection is available individually at a price of R350 per print or as a complete set at a price of R4950 (save R1000). Print dimensions: 240mm (w) x 160mm (h) Mounting dimensions: 355mm (w) x 315mm (h) An African Tale: "We've come a long way, many roads, many miles travelled. Triumphed, failed, explored and marvelled, Wonders of Nature's Mother, Her burdens carried, Her offerings tasted in such abundance, almost drying Her eyes, meant to weep. Tampered-with Traditions and Contemporary Cultures have altered our thens to nows, naturally leaving her composition changed. Change is good. Change is inevitable. Change creates change. An author can change a dark novel into enlightening words meant for change. Added brush strokes of vibrant colour to canvas, can do the same. What we do with our words and our colour is ours entirely. Seconds fly, time passes by and in return we do the same. Moments lost or captured will never resurface perfectly again, they are also interpreted in a different light individually. Once again a choice is laid out before us, to pass by or to hold, within our minds that moment as we saw it, forever. Whether accepting small change from a fruit stall in Thohoyandou, or passing by the bead lady, or giving sweets to the too-afraid-to-ask child in the homeland. Admiring the East Coast fisherman providing for his family & friends or the mollusc-filled basket bags, collected by the women for boiling. Whether acknowledging the boy's grasshopper playmate for what it is or to step back & shriek is entirely ours to do. To share with you these moments and more are interpretations of interactive glances, smiles and frowns, each one enfolding an African Tale of their own, today." - Camdon Juby
